Department of Psychology of Maharshi Dayanand University Selected By UGC Under Special Assistance Programme
Rohtak, Friday, January 08, 2010: The Department of Psychology of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has been selected by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Special Assistance Programme (SAP) for DRS-II (Departmental Research Support) for a period of five years.
A University spokesperson informed that this special assistance will be for the period-April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2014. The thrust area under this programme will be ‘Health Psychology.’ Prof. Rajbir Singh and Prof. Nov Rattan Sharma respectively will be the Co-ordinator and Deputy Co-ordinator of the programme. Under this special assistance programme, the Dept. of Psychology will receive financial assistance of Rs. 47 lac for the duration of the programme.
The spokesperson informed that Prof. Girishwar (Univ. of Delhi) and Prof. Sobhini Rao, former Professor of Clinical Psychology, NIMHANS, Bangalore will be the UGC nominees on this programme.
Prof. Rajbir Singh, Co-ordinator of this programme informed that the Dept. of Psychology had taken new initiatives in community health under this programme during SAP (DRS-I) from 2004-2009. He said that apart from continuing such innovative community health initiatives, three National/International seminars will be organized under this Special Assistance Programme.
