US high school cancels prom to avoid lesbian date

New York: A school in Mississippi has cancelled a high-school prom after a student asked to bring another girl as her date and wear a tuxedo.
The American Civil Liberties Union, Mississippi, told the school board of Itawamba Agricultural High School that denying the request would be violating the student`s freedom of expression rights and so the authorities decided to cancel the prom altogether, according to US media.
The school was given till Wednesday to take a call on the prom, which was scheduled for April 2. It released a statement cancelling the prom and tried to get a private group to host the dance.
